We are delighted to announce we have been entrusted by Doncaster Council to provide care and support to 37 people with a range of disabilities in Doncaster and welcoming over 100 new staff.
Recently Doncaster Council carried out assessments of people with learning disabilities who have a range of complex needs currently in residential care to ensure that they were receiving the best possible care and support for their individual needs. It identified that many people currently living in residential care in Doncaster could have their care and support needs met in a supported living environment; tenancy-based homes that would also provide greater security of tenure and greater choice and control for people using services.
Supported living services enable people with a disability to live independently in their own home, with appropriate support to help them manage their own tenancy and achieve greater freedom and control in their lives and live life to the full in their community.
A thorough process was carried out by Doncaster Council in partnership with Doncaster Clinical Commissioning Group to identify a support provider who would put the best support in place to ensure all individuals with learning disabilities affected by this tender lead a full and meaningful life with greater independence, personal choices and stronger links within their local community.
Damian Allen, Director of People at Doncaster Council said:
“Throughout this tender process Walsingham Support demonstrated a person-centred approach which is so important for us as we trust our residents with their care. They also have much experience in supporting individuals to reach their aspirations and full potential and encouraging greater independence.”
We are pleased to have secured the contract as a result of demonstrating that we enable individuals to lead a quality life through person-centred support, upholding quality standards and embracing innovation and positive risk taking.
We will play a key role in transitioning people with disabilities to more independent and flexible supported living services that will increase the quality of life and happiness of each individual. For all our staff, from support workers to the CEO, it’s not just support, it’s happiness:
“Over 30 years ago, my parents started Walsingham Support to improve the care and independence of individuals with learning disabilities, including my brother. It is with great pride that we have been entrusted to provide care and support to 37 individuals across 9 locations in Doncaster. Everyone is different, with different needs and abilities. We are looking forward to creating personalised plans of care and support that reflects each individual’s unique support needs, hopes, dreams and aspirations.”
Paul Snell, CEO – Walsingham Support
We are working in partnership with Rotherham, Doncaster and South Yorkshire NHS Foundation Trust and Doncaster Council to ensure a smooth transition. Work is already underway as we welcome and transition over 100 staff that will be key to establishing strong community networks, providing innovative day care opportunities and enhancing the independence, choice and control for every person supported. People are at the heart of everything we do. We are excited to become part of the local community, empowering those we support to do the same.
